More nudibranch images added

After the Nudibranch Safari at Gulen Dive Resort in March 2012, I have plenty of new nudibranch images. Over the last few days I have added 50+ new images to the database.

Posted on Apr 13, 2012

These new images come in addition to the 250+ Norwegian nudibranch images already in the database - most of them shot at Gulen Dive Resort where there are still plenty to find.

Each year on the Nudibranch Safari we find anywhere from 30-50 species, depending on the conditions. But nudibranchs can be found almost all year round - even in the autumn.

Diaphorodoris luteocincta is a very small species, not often seen by divers. The yellow edge makes it very easy to recognize and it cannot be confused with other species in Norwegian waters.

Still, spring is the best time to catch these shell-less molluscs onto your image sensor. Most of the species are spawning sometime between March and May, and the shallow waters are teeming with them this time.

On this year's Nudibranch Safari some very exciting finds were made, including what will probably turn out to be the very rare species Beghia norvegica. Discovered in 1939, this species has never been seen since - but we found plenty of it this year.

This orange aeolid may turn out to be the extremely rare species Berghia norvegica which has not been seen since its discovery in 1939. Note the extremely small Favorinus blianus in front of the egg spiral.

After going through my images from the safari I have posted several of them in the database over the last few days.

If you would like to learn more about nudibranchs, both in terms of biology, behaviour and how to photograph them, you are very welcome to join next year's Nudibranch Safari.
