M-1104 Jan Hubert

In January 2011, after more than 20 years of searching, the German minesweeper M-1104 Jan Hubert was finally found at 50 meters depth off the coast of southern Norway.

Posted on Sep 13, 2011

On July 8, 1941, M-1104 Jan Hubert was leading a convoy heading for Stavanger when thick fog forced her to stop.

Unfortunately the fog horn signals were not understood by the freighter "Aura" coming from behind, and she collided with Jan Hubert causing disaster.

Lots of artefacts have been salvaged from the wreck, with permission from the owner.

The pristine wreck of M-1104 Jan Hubert has been surveyed both by divers and by a VideoRay micro-ROV, and the database contains images of both.

In addition there are a number of images of the artefacts that have been salvaged from the wreck, which were on display a few months after the wreck was discovered.

The wreck of Jan Hubert is in excellent condition, and has not been dived much.
