Jan Hubert story and cover in WDM

The October 2011 issue of Wreck Diving Magazine features one of my images from "Jan Hubert" on the cover - as well as a comprehensive feature about the wreck inside the magazine.

Posted on Oct 19, 2011

The latest issue of Wreck Diving Magazine is just out in both print and online versions, and I am thrilled to se my images in the U.S. for the first time.

The 8-page spread tells the story of Jan Hubert, a German trawler converted into a minelayer before WWII. On July 8, 1941 she was escorting a convoy when she collided with another ship and sank.

The images show both diving and surveying the wreck with a VideoRay Pro 4 micro-ROV as well as several images of artefacts from the wreck:

The wreck of Jan Hubert was found off the southern coast of Norway in January 2011 by Steinar Monsen and Arne Wathne after 20 years of searching, and I was invited to come down to photograph it.

The wreck had wedged itself in a narrow canyon at 50-70 meters depth, with tall rock walls on either side - making it almost impossible to detect using sonar or echosounder.

Famous contributors

Wreck Diving Magazine was voted "Publication of the Year" at the EuroTek convention in 2008, and features well-known writers and photographers like Richie Kohler, John Chatterton, Cris Kohl, Leigh Bishop and many more.

Wreck Diving Magazine also used on of my images on the cover.

I think I'm the first Norwegian to be published in this exclusive company - but please correct me if I'm wrong!
