S/S Dølen in Romerikes Blad

The wreck of the 65 ft. tugboat S/S Dølen is located at the outlet of Mjøsa, Norway's biggest lake. The story was on print in the local newspaper Romerikes Blad on August 4, 2012.

S/S Dølen was used to tow dredging excavators and timber, and was in service on Mjøsa and in the river Vorma from 1910 until she was laid up in 1962.

She sank sometime in April 1968, but since fresh water is kind on wrecks she is still very much intact and offers lots of interesting details - like the beautiful propeller and rudder.

Romerikes Blad published the story on four pages plus the cover of their weekend issue on August 4, 2012. I really like the layout they made - very nice!

Mahogany and plush

S/S Dølen was also used for evaluating damages after floods, and she was equipped with an elegant mahogany smoking salon where the compensations could be discussed sitting comfortably in a large plush sofa.

The wreck rests at a depth of 1-16 meters (depending somewhat on the water level) and is one of quite few freshwater wrecks accessible to divers.

An old image showing S/S Dølen in the docks at Minnesund, presumably for repair or maintenance. Reproduced from the book "Damp- og motorbåter på Mjøsa" by A. J. Berg og A. M. Nordsveen, 1996.
