Images on national TV

The Norwegian public broadcaster NRK ran a story about marine archaeology in the Trondheim region, using some of my images from the ancient wreck Perlen. The story was followed up online.

The marine archeologists at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim have been surveying the seabed, finding lots of artefacts.

Among the interesting finds just outside Trondheim harbor is the wreck of Perlen, which sank during a storm in 1781. The frigate was loaded with bricks, rye and 3.000 clay pipes - some of which can be seen even today.

Here is the videoclip from NRK with some of my images:

NRK interviewed marine archaeologist Fredrik Skoglund from NTNU, and he tells a story of shipwrecks, airplanes and remains from the German submarine bunker Dora which was constructed during WWII.

- When we know the exact date of a shipwreck, it helps us to learn more about other things found in the harbor, Fredrik Skoglund says.

For instance, the design of clay pipes changed over time. By comparing the batch found at Perlen with others found in the area the marine archaeologists can make an educated guess about age.

I visited the wreck of Perlen with Fredrik Skoglund in November 2010 to try and document the site further.
