Frankenwald in Sportsdykkeren

In 2009, the 122 meter long German freighter Frankenwald was voted Norway's Best Wreck. In their April 2014 issue, the Danish magazine Sportsdykkeren take their readers for a dive there.

Posted on Apr 16, 2014

Frankenwald sank after running aground just north of the Sognefjord on the Norwegian west coast on January 6, 1940. Today, the migthy ship is standing upright in 40 meters of water.

Danish divers can read the story about Frankenwald and the events that led to her demise on a 5-page spread in the April 2014 edition of Sportsdykkeren magazine.

The story is probably the most comprehensive ever written about Frankenwald, and I'm happy that danish divers have this opportunity to learn more about the history behind this world class wreck dive.

Even after 70+ years on the bottom of the ocean, Frankenwald is remarkably intact. Both masts ase still standing, and the bridge area is the only place showing any significant decay.

If you want to travel to Norway to dive this spectacular wreck please get in touch with Gulen Dive Resort. They run regular trips to Frankenwald and other great wrecks in the area.

Federation magazine

Sportsdykkeren is the membership magazine of the Danish Sports Divers Federation, and has a printed circulation of approximately 8.000 copies, distributed to all members.

The magazine is published six times a year, and also offers subscriptions to non-members. To my great pleasure, the editor also chose to use one of my images on the cover.

Everyone I have spoken to says the PADI Rescue Diver was the most challenging and rewarding course they ever took. I signed up for class and took the most important course on the PADI ladder.
