Clear water, plenty of wrecks

Sounds almost too good to be true? This is precisely what the Mediterranean islands of Malta and Gozo offers! Read more in the April 2014 issue of the Swedish Sportsdykkeren magazine.

Swedish divers who have never been to the Mediterranean will hopefully get some inspiration this month, as Sportsdykkeren runs my Malta and Gozo story on an 8-page spread.

I visited both of the islands and was able to do several great wreck and cave dives - and now I share my experience with their readers.

HMS Maori is just one of many spectacular wreck dives on Malta, several of which has been sunk on purpose. The HMS Maori is however a true WWII wreck.

The two islands are very close to each other, just separated by a 30-minute ferry ride. This gives divers great reach and many diving opportunities.

Wrecks and caves

The story covers both wreck diving and spectacular caves. I visited Um El Fahourd, the Blenheim Bomber, P-29 Boltenhagen and HMS Maori on Malta, while Gozo offered wreck splendour in the form of Cominoland and Karwela.

On Gozo, the world famous dive sites of Blue Hole and Inland Sea by the UNESCO World Heritage site Azure Window was a must - but there was also time for other exciting dives.

Federation magazine

Sportsdykkeren is the membership magazine of the Swedish Sports Diver Federation , and has a circulation of approximately 8.000.
