On the cover of Malstroem

Caterina Cattaneo's new book, a thriller called Maelstroem, features one of my wreck images on the cover. I'm very proud that one of Norway's biggest publishing houses chose my image.

Posted on Feb 10, 2014

The book, which is aimed at young adults, is Norwegian-Italian writer Caterina Cattaneo's second. It's about two young people who are put to the test when they come face to face with greed, brutality and death.

And then there's diving. Caterina has over a thousand dives herself, and according to the reviews the dive scenes are pretty spectacular...

English version?

I don't know if the publisher Gyldendal have an English version planned, but the book already has an English title on their website - Whirlpool. Here's what they write about it:

Live is going away on an InterRail ticket, and she never wants to return. She has to leave everything that reminds her of the loss of her sister, of her mother’s turning into a human zombie and of the fact that no one likes her.

On the train she meets Robert who not only likes her, he even wants her to go wreck diving with him. She loves diving, but that isn’t the only reason she agrees to go with him: Robert is good-looking, and he sees the whole her. She is heading for something good.

But then they find something that changes everything. Something that puts them in situations they never could have imagined and forces them do to things they never would have done under different circumstances..."

WWII wrecks and Nazi gold

Sounds pretty exciting, doesn't it? They don't give away much aboutthe diving, but I can reveal that it has to do with a WWII wreck and Nazi gold...

The cover image shows two divers exploring the wreck of S/S Lita, a small passenger steamer that went down in in Åfjord in 1944. I shot this on an awesome dive back in 2010.

The book is available at bookstores for NOK 279,-. Go get it and get your sons and daughters interested in diving!
