The sinking of the German freighter Welheim is one of the more dramatic war stories from the Norwegian coast.

Welheim and the convoy she was a part of was attacked by a British and a Norwegian torpedo boat, and out of four torpedos fired one hit Welheim causing her hold to flood immidiately.

In the February, 2014 issue of Dykking magazine, readers can enjoy the full story on a 5-page spread:

Despite attempts to save her and her cargo, she sank within hours. Welheim is a great wreck dive, but the weather-beaten location does not offer too many chances to dive here.

Welheim is 135 meters long, and lies with an 85 degree list on her port side from 14 to around 70 meters depth.

The huge hydraulic cranes over Welheim's holds make for a beautiful silhouette against the surface.
