Genesis goes to the top

The Unterwasser Visions photo contest is still going strong, with plants being he theme in August 2014. My close-up of a water lily leaf entitled "Genesis" was awarded 1st place by the jury.

Posted on Sep 1, 2014

On a dive in Drengsrudvannet in Asker south of Oslo I came across some beautiful, red water lily leaves sprouting at the bottom, and since the brown bullhead catfish I was really looking for didn't show up I decided to give it a go.

Lousy visibility demanded a close-up approach, and the amazing colors combination quickly reminded me of the origins of life. The Unterwasser Visions jury loved the idea, and gave me this fantastic review:

Plants - we had imagined it otherwise. What a creative submission! Surprisingly different, not a bit green, and a shining example of a plant image thanks to the aesthetic quality. Perfectly composed with very attractive colors, perfected by the captured light beam. We say good-bye to the idea of plants being only green and have started polishing the gold medal, they wrote (translated from German).

Victory for Team Norway

In the team contest we nailed our second victory of the year, thanks to very strong entries from all members.

Lill Haugen was awarded 2nd place with a beautiful kelp image, while Ann Karin Matberg secured 10th place with a water lily reflection.

Team Norway 2014: Lill Haugen, Bjørnar Nygård, Ann Karin Matberg and Christian Skauge.
