Lake Lygnstølsvatnet

Lake Lygnstøylsvatnet came into existence in 1908 after a big landslide closed off the river Lygna and flooded the valley - and a unique divesite was born. Check out my new images!

Posted on Apr 27, 2009

Below the water are remains of several dairy huts, stone fences, gates, a road with a bridge and even an old forest.

I visit this spectacular lake more or less every year, and 2008 was no exception. After the trip 27 new images have been added to the ScubaPixel database - both underwater and topside.

The old image is reproduced from an information sign at the site, where the story of the landslide and what happened afterwards is told to visiting tourists and divers.

Get the full story!

I have on offer a 900 word story covering how this unique divesite came into being, complete with print-ready land and underwater images. Please click to the right to read more.
