The Wrecks of Gulen

The area at the mouth of the famous Sognefjord on the Norwegian west coast was of great strategic importance during WWII, and the area is virtually littered with wrecks.

Hovering above the stern of the might Frankenwald, which almost resembles the conning tower of a giant submarine, is a truly awesome experience.

Or how about sinking below the stern of the huge Ferndale, only to discover that there is a smaller wreck just next to her - the rescue steamer Parat?

These are just two of the spectacular wreck diving experiences found at the mouth of the Sognefjord. Now you can share this destination with your readers!

Oldenburg, Frankenwald, Ferndale, Parat, Bandak and Haakon are just some of the 20+ wrecks found in the Gulen area. Many of them are from WWII, but still in excellent condition.

If you're interested in diving any of these, or even a whole range of other wrecks, get in touch with Gulen Dive Resort. They offer regular dive trips to 20+ wrecks, weather permitting.

Many wrecks are found from 10-30 meters, but some are even deeper and require more experience or even technical training. In any case, there is rust available for all kinds of divers.

The twin wrecks of Ferndale and Parat is certainly a world-class dive. Here you'll find rust from 10 to 60 meters, making this an excellent dive for both novices and tech divers alike.
